Jeff Ardis - District Manager, Boston, Massachusetts

Jeff Ardis is Austrade's District Manager for the New England region (Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont), based near Boston. He was previously with the LEGO toy company, where he took the brand into new channels such as QVC and built product development and licensing relationships with Radio Shack, NASA, and the NBA. Jeff also has experience in the management and promotion of major sports events, including the 1994 soccer World Cup and the 1996 Olympic Games.

Jeff works with a range of healthcare technology clients, seeking opportunities with companies that support one of the USA's strongest clusters of medical research and practice. The region is home to several renowned teaching hospitals and was chosen as a developmental site for the National Health Information Network.

To leverage New England's maritime commerce, Jeff will also be exploring opportunities in Port Operations & Security and Marine Technology. Envirotech / Cleantech, Sports round out his technology portfolio.

David Howard was appointed Senior Trade Commissioner - New York in March 2003, following a successful executive career in private industry.

Mr Howard's background is in sales, marketing and company management. Immediately prior to joining the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) he completed five years with a U.S. financial services technology company, having led Australian, New Zealand and Japan operations before moving to North America to manage global strategy and establish operations in Canada.

Mr Howard has held senior executive/sales and marketing management positions with public and private companies in the ICT value added services, Engineering, and Consumer Durables sectors over a 25 year period. He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Export and Australian Institute of Company Directors courses. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.




Simon Hill - Business Development Manager, New York

Simon Hill was appointed to the role of Business Development Manager – New York in July 2007, and joins the Technology Team with a wealth of international business experience.

Mr Hill’s contributes a total of 16 years of business experience, six of which have been in private sector international business development roles in East Africa, China and USA.

An Australian citizen, Mr Hill’s diverse industry experience spans financial services technology, agriculture, wine and tourism. He is a graduate of The University of Adelaide, and studying his Executive MBA at New York University, Stern School of Business.

Michelle Pflaum - Senior Business Development Manager

With over 12 years international business experience, including over nine years in North America, Michelle Pflaum is responsible for working with Australian technology companies to develop successful market entry strategies, identify US partners/strategic alliances and establish US operations. During her seven years in San Francisco she has worked with small start-ups as well as publicly listed firms to successfully achieve sales and expand their business in the US market. Michelle is head of Austrade's US Technology Team.

Michelle has worked in Austrade Sydney providing strategic marketing and international market entry advice to Australian technology companies. She has also held a marketing position in Austrade’s Toronto office. Prior to joining Austrade, Michelle worked in the Trade Credit and Political Risk Division of American International Group Inc (AIG) (#10 in Fortune 500). Based in Toronto, Canada, she was responsible for providing financial services to North American IT multinationals.

She holds a BA and Master of International Relations from Griffith University, Australia, and a Certificate in Global Leadership from Thunderbird –The American Graduate School of International Management. Michelle is presently studying at UC Berkeley.

Dan is the resident expert in selling to the government. In addition he has a network of customers in the greater Washington region and can assist Australian information and communications technology (ICT) companies achieve export success.

As a former senior executive of a successful Australian high-tech company, Dan has experience creating partnerships with companies at different levels of the value chain and specifically with US companies. The experience has given Dan an understanding of the needs of Australian ICT exporters and US buyers.

Formerly, Director of Business Development and Strategic Alliances for Blaze International with experience raising capital, partnering with large US technology companies and commercialising Australian technology.
