Tony Burchill - Trade Commissioner
In his current role, Tony works across a wide spectrum of Australian business advising companies on the challenges of market entry, communications strategy, partner and opportunity identification in North India.
At the Australian High Commission in India, Tony is working under Senior Trade Commissioner, Mike Moignard, and will be liaising with the key agencies such as Foreign Affairs at the High Commission as well as directing seven marketing teams in the pursuit of business matching across priority sectors.

I believe that it is Austrade’s global reach and in-market expertise that is the organisations competitive advantage. The hard part is to cover the depth and complexity of diverse sectors and learn the language to engage fully with our client base," said Tony.
Education Tony has qualifications in economics, Asian politics/ history and marketing. Currently studying a Masters of eBusiness at Austrade Institute’s partner university in RMIT. He has also taught Marketing Planning at Monash University.
Experience Tony began his career as an economist with the Federal Government and then moved to business journalism. In this professional area, Tony worked as a senior journalist at The Age, The Australian Financial Review and in Taiwan as a business editor.
Tony joined Austrade in 1995. From 1996 to 2001 Tony worked as a Trade Commissioner in Jakarta and in fact was the longest serving Australian diplomat at the Australian Embassy during the period of krismon and political transition in Indonesia.
From 2001 to 2004, Tony worked as the Industry specialist for Austrade’s Global IT Team inaugurating a number of key programs including Digital Content and the Showcasing Innovation Roadshow.
Tony's core skills are in industry and market analysis, political risk and communications planning.
